Kya Lou (B. SAN DIEGO) is aN artist AND FILMMAKER working in Los Angeles.
their practice draws A thread THROUGH film, sculpture and photography. her work IS GROUNDED IN COLOR SPECTRUMS, spiritual metadata and ARCHIVAL CRATES.
from 2017 - 2021, she ran a color grading studio by the name of coloured only. since then, she has worked AS A COLORIST ON a wide array of commercials, films and art installations. with a background in post-production, THEY build foundationS that consider the residue of every frame.
Lou’S RECENT WORK INCLUDES a 18-channel VIDEO installation about choreographer, alvin ailey. the installation is a collaborative effort shared with her friend, josh begley. IT IS on view at the whitney museum of american art IN edges of ailey , curated by adrienne edwards.
SHE IS ALSO DEVELOPING a book ON color theory, STAND-UP COMEDY ROUTINES and a film that troubles the truth EMBEDDED IN her family’s migration from the american south to southern California in the 1950s.
